Comic Book Page Templates in Standard Comic Book Size for Procreate
“Comic Book Page Templates in Standard Size for Procreate” is a package of five quality-made, high resolution (300 and 450dpi) template files for digital comic book artists, built using Comixology Submit's recommended page specs.
Also included in this template package are three Procreate brushes used for creating panel borders.
The template pages are meant to be used by digital comic book artists of any experience level, whether you are a professional working on a pitch, a student making a portfolio to take to comic conventions, or a Hobbyist creating a comic for their own enjoyment.
IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT PURCHASE THESE TEMPLATES IF YOU DO NOT OWN AN IPAD PRO (12.9 INCH MODEL). These templates are NOT optimized for any other iPad.
Included in this package of comic book page templates:
5 Page Templates in the Procreate file format at 450DPI, and 300DPI:
Single Page Templates
1 Cover Page
1 Interior Page
1 Thumbnail Page
Double Page Templates
1 Cover Page
1 Interior Page
3 Procreate Brushes for the 450DPI, and 300DPI page templates.
1 single line Procreate brush for creating a single line panel border
1 double line Procreate brush for creating a double line panel border including a gutter space. Note: The default size for this brush matches the template well and should not be resized.
1 Square Procreate brush for erasing panel borders
The size of the panel border brushes are tailored to fit the templates they are meant to be used in.
The 450dpi panel border brushes must be used with the 450dpi page templates.
The 300dpi panel border brushes must be used with the 300dpi page templates.
Trim, Type safe, and Bleed markings
Trim is the final size of your comic page after it has been printed and cut to size by the printer.
Type Safe is the area that you can safely place artwork and text that will not get cut off in the timing process. Your logo, panels, and artwork will go here.
Bleed is the area that is not expected to be printed but may be printed if the printer’s trimming of the comic is not precise. This template allows for an industry standard of 0.25″ of bleed. Only non essential artwork details should be placed in the bleed area.
Available In Two Print-Capable Resolutions
Included in the file package, are templates and brushes at print resolutions of 45DPI, and 300DPI.
450DPI These files are the at the highest resolution possible for Procreate on the iPad Pro (12.9 inch model - 1st Gen).
Due to Procreate file size limitations, 450DPI is currently the highest resolution possible. As trade off to having a print-resolution file, there are a maximum of 12 layers available to use in the single page template file.
In the double page 450DPI template file, the layer maximum is drastically reduced to 4 Layers. This is an unavoidable limitation imposed by Procreate on the iPad.
300DPI These files allow for a greater number of layers compared to the 450DPI files.
Changeable background colour The background is on a separate color block layer, and can be changed to any color you require with a couple of clicks.
Changeable color and opacity for template information and markings
Template Markings Color
The template elements (Creator info, page info, crop marks etc.) are on one separate layer (with a transparent background) that can be changed in a couple of clicks.
Template Markings Opacity
If you require the template elements to be less or more prominent, change the opacity of the template element layers: they can be found within the “Page Template” layer.
Page Markings For the Single and Double Page Templates
The single and double page – Interior story templates include page markings for dividing the page into halves and thirds, as well as for creating panel border layouts
Halve markers The halve markers can be found on the outer-most border of the template (a solid line indicating the Bleed border). The markers are small dashes at the top, bottom, and both sides of the bleed border.
Thirds markers The thirds markers can be found on dotted line directly next to the Bleed border line (This line indicates Trim). They are small markings at the top, bottom, and both sides of the solid border.
Panel Border Markings The panel markers are based on a 36 panel grid. While you will very likely never need 36 panels, it allows for a high degree of flexibility when creating panel layouts for your page.
Here’s a very short list of the near infinite panel layout combinations possible using this 36 panel grid.
6 Panels of equal size.
9 Panels of equal size.
5 panels starting with a large establishing shot.
4 horizontal panels of varying heights
6 vertical panels for a fast paced tic tac toe sequence of events.
4 Panels starting with a large vertical panel for impactful character intro shots.
Logo and UPC Code Placement Guides on Cover Pages
Logo Placement: On the top 1/4 of the type safe area are markings on the left and right side of the template that indicate a possible location for your comic’s logo.
UPC code Placement: On the bottom left and right corners, there are markings for both horizontal and vertical layouts of a UPC code.
The logo and UPC code size and locations guides are approximate, based on current comic book cover logo and UPC code placement. The UPC code you use on your comic cover may not be exactly the size indicated in these templates. It should be close though.
This template includes single page and double page thumbnail layouts.
There are two thumbnail layout layers that can be turned on and off, depending on your needs. These layers can be found in the layer folder “Thumbnail Borders”
“Single”: This layer contains 9 single page thumbnail borders.
“Double”: This layer contains 3 double page thumbnail borders and 3 single page thumbnail borders.
In the case you need a double page thumbnail for page 4 (for example), copy a double page thumbnail from the “Double Page” layer and paste it. It will paste automatically on a new layer. Select the “Single Page” layer and delete thumbnails for pages 4 and 5. Position the double page thumbnail and merge the new double page layer with the “Single Page” layer. Done.
